WHAT SOMERVILLE ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND IS

The run-around

Somerville is a grass roots well-established community based Adventure playground serving the Community of New Cross and the surrounding area.

We offer essential safe playspace; support and activities for school aged children, which they are otherwise denied by their environment.

The playground is open all the year round with the attendance being higher in the summer months, than in the winter.

We are open six days a week during term time. After school and on Saturday afternoons.

During the school holidays we are open from Monday to Friday 10am-7pm

Admission is open to all 5-16 year olds with no entrance fee or membership required

The playground offers a wide range of activities for the children who come to the playground with the emphasis being put on the children and young people's right to choose what activities go on. The object being to give them a sense of responsibility for their playground and ultimately a sense of pride in what they helped to achieve.

The rappers

We actively encourage the use of the playground by members of all ethnic groups and both sexes. By monitoring our users we keep a check on who is using the playground to ensure that our aims are being achieved. We work hard to build and maintain an atmosphere of security and trust in which our users can feel safe and welcome

Co-operation

OUTSIDE

The main focus for activity on the playground. The site is principally occupied by large wooden structures incorporating assorted swings..

These structures are linked together with walkways at many different levels.

We work hard to ensure that the design of the playground promotes a good balance of imaginative and physical play opportunities. The structures are constantly changed refurbished and redecorated and this is done in consultation and participation of our users.
